Kakatiyas of Warangal - gold punch-marked heavy gadyana, repousse fabric, tentatively attributed to period of Gunda IV (955-995AD), 5.64g, Height: 48.26mm, Width: 48.65mm. Obv: In centre, mythical bird Hamsa with floral ornamentation around, struck from a single die. Ten punches around - 5x stylized lion facing right, alternating with 5x boar facing right with sun and moon above; along the border, eight punches - 4x stylized lotus, 2x Kannada letter 'Shri' juxtaposed and combined, 1x Kannada legend 'Manda', 1x Kannada legend 'lika'.

Extremely fine, Extremely rare.

Most likely an issue of Gunda IV (955-995AD), an early Kakatiya ruler who ruled as a feudatory of the Rashtrakutas. The title 'Mandalika’ might refer to the feudatory status of Gunda IV. The weight of the coin is 25% heavier than a normal gadyana.
