Kakatiyas of Warangal - gold punch-marked heavy gadyana, repousse fabric, tentatively attributed to period of Prola I (c.1052-1076 AD), 5.63g, Height: 49.56mm, Width: 51.07mm. Obv: In centre, a majestic roaring lion with floral ornamentation around, struck from a single die; eight punches around - 2x Kannada 'Shri' in pair, 4x lotus symbols, 1x Kannada legend Raaya Gaja, 1x Kannada legend Kesari. Along the border, 13 punches - six clusters of dots (stylized lotus symbols) alternating with seven 'lion facing left' symbols.

Extremely fine, Extremely rare.

The title 'Dayagaja Kesari' was held by many Kakatiya rulers including Prola I (c.1052-1076) but this coin is more likely to be an early issue, hence its tentative attribution to Prola. The weight of the coin is 25% heavier than a normal gadyana.
