Kadambas of Goa, gold gadyana of Jayakeshi III (1187-1225 AD), Bilingual (Kannada and Devnagari), 4.40g. Obv: Roaring lion with a raised forepaw facing left, sun and crescent above rump, Name of cyclic year (Samvatsara) 'Prajāpati' inscribed in Halekannada in front. Rev: Devanagari legend Shri Saptako/ tisha labdhava/ra veera Jayake/si Deva Malava/ramari in five lines.

Extremely fine, Rare.

Kadambas of Goa were a branch of the Kadambas of Banavasi, who ruled the region Belgaum, Dharward, and parts of Uttara Kannada districts in Karnataka and the modern Goa. Usually, the Samvatsara years are inscribed in Devanagari, much like the reverse legend. However, some rare issues with the name inscribed in Halekannada script have surfaced recently.
