Early medieval Gujarat, Rashtrakuta period, unattributed copper coin, (700-800 AD), unpublished in major sources, 2.84g. Obv: Anthropomorphic Garuda running to right, clutching a snake in his hands. Rev: Trident in the centre; traces of proto-Nagari legend …vi/ti on left and di(tya) on the right.

Very fine+, Very rare.

The depiction of Garuda suggests a plausible attribution of the coins to Rashtrakutas of Gujarat or their feudatories. The legend on the reverse is incomplete but the '-aditya' ending suggests a king from a 'Rajput' solar lineage might have been responsible for the coin's issue.
