MID 18TH CENTURY SILVER HILTED SMALL SWORD.
Overall length: 36”. Blade length: 30”. Swords of this style were quite popular during the American Revolution & carried by many officers. Colichemarde style blade has a central fuller opposite the raised medial ridge. There is decorative foliate engraving extending about 7” up the blade. Silver hilt shows evidence of parcel gilt highlights. Entire hilt is wonderfully embellished w/ foliate decoration & fanciful animals. There is an animal head at the tip of the quillon. The pas d’ Ane are quite high. Highly embellished pommel. Knuckle bow has vestiges of hallmarks, possibly indicating French mfg. Silver wire & tape wrapped grip. No scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a light gray patina. Hilt is a bit loose overall though there is no damage to any part of the hilt. Grip wrap is complete but loose. (02-13565/BF). $800-1,300.
