The model 1913 cavalry sword was designed by General George S. Patton & is commonly referred to as the “Patton sword”. It represents a technological leap forward concentrating on the thrusting power of cavalry rather than the hacking power. Overall length: 43”. Blade length: 35 1/4”. Central fullered blade marked at the ricasso, “S(flaming bomb)A1913” & “US33” on the other. Sheet steel guard. 2 Piece composite grip. Crosshatched palm rest w/ thumbprint. Iron mounted canvas covered scabbard w/ no peg. Scabbard mounts are painted gold. Scabbard body is painted black. Scabbard has an old tag attached that reads, “Horse Marines Mounted Detachment American Legation Guard at PeiPing China”. CONDITION: blade has a light gray patina w/ some scattered evidence of sharpening. Hilt generally shows light wear. Scabbard shows light wear. (02-13640/BF). $1,000-1,600.
