L.C. Smith Grade 2 Sidelock Double Shotgun
serial #323110, 12 ga (2 3/4''), 32'' Crown Steel barrels choked improved modified and full with light pitting scattered throughout. The barrels retain about 50% original blue, appearing stronger under ambient light, toning to gray-brown patina with minor silvering at the muzzles, a couple small spots of light pitting, and numerous light handling marks and fine abrasions. The frame has toned to a silvery case-hardened patina with light oxidation staining and fine pinprick pitting on the lockplates and underside of the frame, the protected areas behind the fences retaining some lovely case-color most notably on the right side. The checkered capped pistolgrip walnut stock and splinter-style forend are in good to about very good condition with a repaired break looping from one lockplate to the other, a couple short, tight cracks at the rear of the forend and a narrow chip to the ebony tip insert, and some scattered light dings and handling marks. The stock features unengraved oval monogram plate on the toeline and a 14 1/2'' length of pull with drops of 1 7/8'' and 3'', and the forend shows a worn circular dog's head inlay and an ebony forend tip. The frame is nicely factory engraved with light filigree scroll and a game bird on each lockplate, the rib extension is ''Hunter Arms Co'' marked, and the barrels and forend are numbered to the gun. The shotgun locks up tight and on-face with the lever coming to rest right of center and features double triggers, an automatic safety, extractors, and a lone brass bead. (14A11621-8) {C&R} (700/900)
