Jahangir (1605-1627) - anonymous copper ½ dam struck to 25% heavy or 'Sawai' standard, 'Rawan' type, Bairath mint, AH1014/RY 1, 12.40g. Obv: Farsi legend Rawan Sanah with RY. Rev: mint-name and AH year.

Very fine, only 2nd piece known, Extremely rare.

Although gold and silver coins struck in the 'Sawai' standard are well-known, heavy copper coins are very rare and so far only three mints - Bairath, Narnol and Ahmadabad - are known to have produced these. While full dams of Narnol and Ahmadabad are known, only one ½ dam struck to the Sawai standard has yet surfaced. This is the second piece of this rare type to surface. The inscription 'Rawan' to denote ½ dam is known from coins of Ajmer mint as well.
