Nizams of Hyderabad - a group of nine unattributed 'Kachcha Paisa' of South Marathwada region, bearing 'Nagfani' or 'scissors' symbol copied from Maratha issues of Pune and its variations: (a) with Trisul instead of Nagfani, 5.89g; (b) Nagfani with figure of '9', 7.44g; (c) Nagfani with Trisul, 7.80g; (d) Nagfani with dot, 7.89g; (e) Nagfani with Sun, 7.99g; (f) Nagfani (plain), 8.10g; (g) Nagfani with three dots, 8.45g; (h) Nagfani (plain) with tree symbol on obverse, 8.67g; (I) Nagfani (plain) with possible mint name on reverse, 15.84g. (9 coins)

Generally very fine, Rare set.

Coins of this type were previously attributed to the Marathas, owing to the 'Nagfani' and similar symbols often encountered on Maratha coins. However, in recent times, this attribution has come under scrutiny. It is most likely a component of the 'Kachcha' currency circulating all over Berar and Marathwada regions, owing to a stimulus in demand for small copper coins to make payments to the labourers in cotton farming industry.
