Maratha Confederacy, silver rupee & ½ rupee, domins of the Kolhapur Chhatrapatis, Chikodi mint, M&W listed under misc and unattributed T11, 11.33g and 5.52g. (2 coins)

About extremely fine, Rare.

Rupees and ½ rupee of this sort are referred to as 'Shambhu-Peerkhani' rupees owing to the additional mark of a Linga on reverse. Maheshwari & Wiggins, for reasons unknown have attributed these coins to the 'miscellaneous and unattributed' category. Although 'Shambu-Peerkhani' rupees were struck at more than one mints, the attribution of this variety to Chikodi is pretty certain based on find-spot evidence. The mint was operated by a minor Desai family.
