Maratha Confederacy, domains of the Peshwas, silver rupee in the name of Shah Ali Gauhar (Shah Alam II), Ganeshpur Chinchwar mint, RY17, symbol of battle axe on reverse, M&W T1, 11.33g.

Good very fine, Very rare.

The mint at Chinchwad struck 'Furshee' (axe-marked) rupees was run by the Dev family who were hereditary incarnates of Moraya Gosawi a 17th century holy man. The RY on the coin corresponds to Shah Akam II. In a year after this coin was struck the mint at Chinchwad was moved to Pune and the RY was changed to that of the Peshwa.
