Cal. 12 Ga., 2 3/4". S# S23270. Bbl. 20". Numbers match on receiver & bbl. Shotgun appears to be "S" type riot gun w/ added handguard & bayonet lug to replicate Model 37 "S" prefix trench gun, however S# is too low to be correct as given on page 186 of Cannfield's Complete Guide to Combat Shotguns. Receiver marked on right forward end "U.S.". Bbl. & receiver marked on top left w/ "P". Bbl. marked "ITHACA GUN CO., INC., ITHACA, N.Y. - MODEL 37 FEATHERLIGHT USE 12 3/4 SHELLS ONLY - MADE IN U.S.A." & "CYL.". Has 6 row handguard & correct style bayonet lug w/ replacement silver colored bead front sight. Sling swivels w/ green web sling. Walnut stock set w/ rnd. grooved slide handle & replacement buttstock. Grooved plastic buttplate marked "ITHACA GUN CO.". CONDITION: buttstock has very good appearance w/ light wear. Butt swivel inletting has amateur gunsmithing workmanship. Well worn original slide handle w/ several cracks. Metal parts except handguard & bayonet attachment has traces of blue in protected area otherwise turning gray w/ oxidation & fine pitting throughout. Bayonet lug & handguard retain 80% original parkerizing. Lock screw is missing from right side of receiver. Very good shiny bore. NOTE: Further research identifies this gun as a Vietnam model "Ithaca Featherlight Repeaters" by Walter Claude Snyder as shown on page 96 on entry from Ithaca Production Control Serial Book. This entry identifies S prefix SN's from 1000 thru 23499 as part of US Government contracts shipped between 11-27-62 and 1-31-63 to Oakland Army Terminal. Stock & handguard may be field replacements.
