52 Cal., 32 5/8'' barrel with an oxidized bore showing strong evident rifling. The metal surfaces of this second production type percussion conversion rifle have toned to a mottled silvery patina with scattered fine pitting, the bands retaining some finish. The top of the breech block shows numerous shallow impact marks over the ''J. H. Hall/H. Ferry/U.S./1832'' breech markings, however the metal markings remain easily legible. The smooth walnut stock shows an older gentle cleaning with defined edges, added oil finish and a repaired semi circular crack at the rear of the tang with slightly raised edges. The rifle functions well mechanically and is missing the ramrod. A nice representative example of America's first successful breech loading rifle. Please see the scarce Model 1819 Hall bayonet available for this rifle in our timed auction. (25A11700-61) {ANTIQUE} (700/900)
