***Auction Highlight*** 1804 Small 8 over Large 8 BD-7 R-4 Gold Draped Bust Half Eagle $5 Graded ms62 By SEGS. HIGHLIGHT OF THE ENTIRE AUCTON - Up for Auction is the WILD 1804 Small over Large 8, BD-7 Rarity 4. Bass-Dannreuther Die State b/b. The Bass-Dannreuther reference calls BD-7 the "Normal 180 over Large 180" variety. This popular 1804 die marriage is one of the more dramatic overdates in the entire half eagle series, with spectacular repunching seen most clearly at the 8. Among Capped Bust Right half eagles, perhaps only the 1797/5 Large Eagle, 15 Stars (BD-7) rivals the Small Over Large 8 in terms of blatant overpunching at the date. This attractive, well-struck example displays satinlike surfaces glow brightly at the margins. The surfaces are wonderfully smooth and minimally abraded for the assigned grade, although some delicate hairlines exist when viewed under a loupe. Vibrant mint luster beams throughout both sides, with needle-sharp stars and nearly full definition on Liberty's hair, cap, and drapery folds. Honey-gold color shows brief orange accents at the borders. Perhaps 100 to 150 BD-7 pieces survive in all grades. I have included another ms62 for your comparison. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. I give this coin my highest recommendation
