SERIAL NUMBER 1648 BARREL 10 1/8" CALIBER .54 SMOOTHBORE MANUFACTURED 1807. Produced at the US Arsenal at Harpers Ferry with tapered round barrel numbered 1648 at breech and marked US & inspected with the Eagle Head over "P" inspection. Lock is marked "HARPERS FERRY 1807 " at rear with Large Eagle with "US" in center. one piece walnut stock with brass butt with medium stirrups, brass trigger guard and rod guide with brass band at forend. Stock is retained with single wedge and tang screw. Just over 2500 pistols were produced in 1807 with most later being converted to percussion. This example remains in its original flintlock configuration with visible cartouches in the wood stock and remains operable. CONDITION. Good with proper functioning lock. Bore is dark. Markings remain crisp and legible. The stock has period of use wear and slight material loss on left side from an earlier repaired crack. A visible but illegible cartouche in present on left side of stock. Barrel and lock are a even dove grey as the stock is good with period of use impressions and a earlier repaired crack on left side. The loading rod is a replacement. Considered by many to be the most elegant of all US Martial pistols and its image is still used to this day on US Military Commendations and awards. ANTIQUE
