A custom made polished rhodium plated brass and silver foil face mask designed by Chris Habana (CHRISHABANA) in official collaboration with Legendary Entertainment and the Dune film production, worn by Grimes at the 2021 Met Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on September 13, 2021 — one of the most photographed and widely covered celebrity appearances of that event, and described by Grimes herself as "my favorite look ever." The mask was subsequently offered at charity auction through Artsy in May 2022 to benefit humanitarian relief efforts in Ukraine. Acquired directly from Grimes' stylist Turner following the auction.

Historical Context
Grimes (born Claire Elise Boucher) is a Canadian musician, producer, and visual artist whose work spans art pop, electronic music, and experimental production. By 2021 she had established herself as one of the most distinctive creative voices at the intersection of music, technology, and visual culture. Her 2021 Met Gala appearance — under the theme "In America: A Lexicon of Fashion" at the Costume Institute — became one of the most widely discussed looks of the evening, generating extensive international press coverage for its conceptual depth and visual impact.
The look was developed by Grimes and her stylist Turner as a cohesive science fiction-inspired statement drawing directly from Denis Villeneuve's 2021 film adaptation of Dune and David Lynch's 1984 original. Grimes told interviewers that she had spoken with Sting about his role as villain Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen in the 1984 adaptation, and that the Harkonnen aesthetic was a deliberate reference. The mask was created by Chris Habana in direct official collaboration with Legendary Entertainment and the Dune film production, taking references from the aesthetics of the Harkonnen empire from both the film and the Frank Herbert source novel; Grimes told Vogue "we were working with the Dune movie people." In addition to the mask and elven ear cuffs (offered separately as Lot 13), Grimes' complete look included a custom Iris Van Herpen 'Bene Gesserit' gown , a small illuminated book, and a medieval-style sword cast from a melted Colt AR-15A3 that has since entered the permanent collection of The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Grimes described the aesthetic as "Medieval futurism" and called the look "my favorite look ever."
Chris Habana (CHRISHABANA) is a New York-based jewelry and accessories designer known for sculptural, avant-garde work at the intersection of fashion and wearable art. The mask was created in collaboration with Grimes, stylist Turner, Legendary Entertainment, and the Dune production, and represents the first in a planned series of accessories produced in conjunction with the film's US release. It is classified as a unique work, custom made to Grimes' face.
On Screen & Red Carpet Use
This mask is worn by Grimes throughout her documented 2021 Met Gala appearances on September 13, 2021 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. In behind-the-scenes footage — from a getting-ready session with Vogue captured approximately three hours before the event — Grimes describes her look while preparing in her hotel suite: "I'm wearing like a Dune, Chris Habana mask and we're doing like metal elf ears. We really wanted the hair to be up to have this big face of metal." Upon arriving at the elevator in her completed look, she states: "So this is the look and I think this might be my best look ever actually." This footage, combined with extensive red carpet coverage including interviews with Vogue and Entertainment Tonight and Grimes' own Instagram video of the look, provides thorough visual documentation of the mask in use throughout the evening.
