WW1 Era German/Prussian NCO Pickelhaube Spiked Helmet, with brass trim. Black patent leather body with front and rear visors. Front visor edge is covered with a brass band. Prussian eagle front plate is attached with threaded posts and nuts, there are no extra holes in the front body. Chinstrap is the NCO type of brass scales with a leather body and brass buckle. Round brass spike base with round top rivets for attachment. Cockades are the tri-color German and black/silver Prussian type. Spike is brass and is removable, with ventilation holes around the perimeter. Rear spine band has a sliding ventilation cap at the top. Lining is a thin black leather enlisted type with nine fingers. There are faint regimental markings stamped into inside of rear visor that read ''29R ??6''. This type of helmet was used from the 1890's thru WW1. Condition is good, with crazing to the patent leather finish of the body, and a few minor dings and dents. Brass fittings show age and toning, with evidence of some polishing a few years ago. The German national cockade is the enlisted type, the Prussian cockade is an NCO/officer's type. Lining is in very good condition with some scuffs to the edges, and it is missing the leather thong tie. Chinstrap is sound. The nuts retaining the front plate are a newer type six-sided nut. Est.: $500-$700.
