Custer ordered this rifle before he left on the Yellowstone Expedition. He used it to hunt game and during his encounters with the Native Americans along the way. He wrote to the Remington Company after his return from the expedition to let them know how impressed he was with the rifle. He was amazed by the distance and accuracy it had. This rifle was taken from Custer's body after he was killed at Little Bighorn by Bull and was later traded for ammunition.
