Gable, Clark. "Salary List" for the play "Hawk Island" signed by Gable beside his name, which is at the top of the list. The 8 x 14 in. document, date-lined New York City, for the week ending Sept. 28, 1929, lists all the cast members of the play which opened on Broadway, along with their weekly salaries. Gable, who starred in the role of Gregory Sloane, made $400 a week, twice the amount of the second highest salary listed. Each actor signed beside his or her name, including Henry O'Neill and Charles Halton. This is thought to be one of the earliest-known signatures of Gable extant, preceding by a year the onset of his Hollywood career. Accompanied by a color-copy promotional piece with a scene from the production showing Gable in formal wear, wielding a pistol, while O'Neill and others look on; also, a vintage newspaper ad listing the cast.
Estimated Value $500 - 700.
