Gable, Clark - Asking His Doctor What Time He Was Born. A 4-page, handwritten letter, dated November 20, 1929, during Gable's brief Broadway period when he was probably playing the lead in "Machinal," signed once in the text and once at the end of the letter. To Dr. J.S. Campbell, the Cadiz, Ohio physician who delivered him. In part, "I would like to know as near as possible the hour of my birthMy name is Clark Gable. My mother's name was Adeline Gable, and my father W.H. Gable. You attended my mother in Cadiz, Ohio, and she died there a few months after my birth. I was born Feb 1, 1901." He signed his name at the end and added his address: "140 East 81, Apt 11-B, New York, N.Y." The doctor wrote on the bottom of Gable's letter, "5:30 a.m." and "Feb. 1, 1901" and returned the letter to him. Severe moisture damage but legible overall. Still a blockbuster for any cinema freak!
