MARSAILLES. Cal. .570 (24 Ga.). NSN. Bbls. 41", have remnants of gold damascening in foliate scroll engraving on breech ends & either side of front sight. Steel ramrod is held by 2 beaded pipes. Original left lock has oct. pan & bridled friction frizzen. Right lock, an old replacement, has waterproof pan & roller frizzen. Trigger guard is of relief filed steel. Owners initials are engraved on trigger guard bow. Relatively plain European walnut stock is nicely checkered at grip w/ deep mullered borders. Bbls. are held to stock by captive side nail through oval silver escutcheons. CONDITION: fair w/ old blue refinish on metal parts over much scattered light pitting. Replacement right lock does not match well & has broken or missing mainspring. Stock retains most of an old varnish refinish w/ numerous marks. Bores are shiny, pitted. Left lock is good. Heer lists Olive working in Marsailles between 1790 & 1800. An attractive old gun. PROVENANCE: Estate Collection of Dan Poppen. (01-17304/MGM50). ANTIQUE. $800-1,200.
