Cal. 72. NSN. Bbl. 45” tapered rnd. appears to be sourced from a British musket. London black powder proofs & initials “WB” are at breech end. Unmarked “trade” mark has bridled friction frizzen on serpentine cock. Stock of what appears to be cherry, has deeply fluted comb & extends to w/in 3” of muzzle. Furniture is of brass, again, most likely sourced from a British musket & lightly engraved. Sideplate which is only under rear lock screw is of ovate New England style. Stock is pinned to bbl. & a horn tipped hickory ramrod is held by 2 beaded brass pipes & thimble. CONDITION: good. Iron parts are a dark brown patina on overall pinprick pitting. Stock is quite attractive w/ considerable hand wear on what is likely a very old oil refinish. Mechanically good. Touchhole is considerably worn. Lock operable but far from crisp. Dark lightly pitted bore. (01-17463/MGM131). ANTIQUE. $700-1,100.
