Cal. 1 1/4" at bell. NSN. Bbl. 16". Classic brass blunderbuss bbl. engraved on the top "HMS TRITON". Although there was an HMS Triton that entered service in 1771, we believe this blunderbuss was part of the armament of the HMS Triton that entered service in 1796 & was a fifth-rate frigate of 32 guns. She saw extensive service during the French Revolution, as well as the Napoleonic Wars. Bbl. has 2 lg. proofs opposite the lock & an iron bbl. tang. Original flintlock w/ unreinforced cock is marked "TOWER" behind the hammer & crown over "GR" in front of the hammer. Brass trigger guard, buttplate, sideplate & ramrod thimble. Wooden ramrod w/ brass tip. CONDITION: bbl. has been polished but has begun to acquire a mellow patina. Lock has a light gray finish w/ scattered areas of oxidation. Other brass parts have also been cleaned but are acquiring patina. Stock shows numerous dents & dings from hard sea service but no major faults. Dark bore. (01-17192/BF). ANTIQUE. $2,000-2,600.
