Timurid/Mughal - gold 1/8 ashrafi of Sulayman Mirza (1529-1584), Badakhshan type, with legend Sultan Sulayman Badshah Ghazi on reverse, Album 2464.3, 0.50g.

Extremely fine, Very scarce.

Sulayman was a distant cousin of Humayun, but was treated by him as one of his sons. His father was given the valley of Badakhshan as an appendage by Babur. In the disputes between Humayun and his brothers, Sulayman stood by Humayun and on occasion made forays into Afghanistan. In his later life, Sulayman came to India with his son Shahrukh and was treated very warmly by Akbar.
