SERIAL NUMBER N/A BARREL 36" CALIBER 8 BORE PERCUSSION MANUFACTURED CIRCA 1870'S. Produced by commercial gunsmith Frank Herman of Michigan as a single barrel Market Hunting Fowler with part octagon "REMINGTON" barrel , back action lock and smooth walnut oil finished stock with smooth steel butt plate. Fluted sight channel with bead front sight. These Market Hunting single shots were used extensively until banned due to the decrease in waterfowl populations by over hunting. Remington produced the barrels as a gunsmith utilized component until the early 1880's. CONDITION. Very good with the bore being lightly frosted . Exterior is a smooth dove grey from exposure to the elements during commercial hunting use. The stock has a spliced repair on right side and damage was probably caused by wood expansion due to moisture , Action operates properly. A very attractive and fine condition market gun. ANTIQUE
