(1960s) A stunning oil painting on canvas of the long extinct PORTS O CALL restaurant in San Pedro, California. The subject is of the marquee entrance to the venue built by David Tallichet who masterminded the whole development. This lovely setting offered a serene waterway entrance complete with a Sampan fishing craft docked in the sleepy lagoon. The painting scene matches a postcard issued at the time and is included in the lot. This real life fantasy installation is the essence of what the whole Polynesian Restaurant movement was about! Carved dark wood period frame enhances the exotic allure of this piece. Comes with photo of actual location. Signed by Thompson. 35.25"x29.25". VG+ with conservation repairs to a break in the canvas. Displays beautifully.
