Rector and sons worked out of Syracuse as early as 1854. Classic Hawken style sporter with heavy 33.5" octagon barrel in 40 caliber. Features beautiful walnut stock with checkered wrist , engraved Moravian star like silver inlays on both sides, a single leaf rear sight, period oak rod, double set triggers. Plated trigger guard and butt plate are also engraved in American bank note type scroll. . Top of barrel is stamped J.H. RECTOR SYRACUSE NY 351 Breech block, hammer, back lock action and upper tang also engraved. Working set triggers. Condition. Very fine. Barrel is a homogenous blue starting to drift patina with sharp barrel legends. Oil finish stock has a few very light impressions, a very minor stress crack at left side stock bolt and snother under lock on right side, both of which are not offensive nor have they weakened the gun. Fiery grain with refreshed checkering. Bore is strong and shiny. Really handsome half stock. ANTIQUE
