1) CIVIL WAR BOWIE KNIFE. Overall length: 11 1/2”. Blade length: 8”. This very attractive & very patriotic bowie knife was a Civil War period product of the notable British firm of Corsan, Denton, Burdekin & Co. This firm was in business from about 1850-1863. Corson traveled extensively in the South for 2 months assessing blockade running opportunities. The classic clip point bowie blade has a 2 3/4" etched panel featuring a spread winged eagle & the words “AMERICA” & “ LIBERTY” on a ribbon. The ricasso is marked “CORSON DENTON BURDEKIN & CO”. An extremely attractive German silver hilt & guard. No sheath. CONDITION: blade has minor spots of discoloration. Patriotic etching remains quite clear. Guard is a bit loose but grip is quite sturdy. 2) GAUCHO KNIFE. Overall length: 12 1/2”. Blade length: 7”. A modern version of the traditional gaucho knife. Plain flat blade marked near the ricasso “KONI (horn)”. Silver plated grip w/ traditional decoration. Silver plated scabbard w/ floral & fanciful decoration. Frog stud/clip has a horse head in a horseshoe. CONDITION: very light wear overall. (02-13483/BF). $300-500.
