PERCUSSION CARBINE. Cal. 54. S# 2175. Standard configuration w/ 22 1/8" bbl., brass mounted. Unique lever activating breech marked "J.H MERRILL BALTO. / PAT. JULY 1858" & S# "2175". Lock is marked "J.H. MERRILL BALTO. / PAT. JULY 1858 / APL. 9 MAY 21-28-61" & S# "2175 at tail". CONDITION: very good to fine overall, complete & original. Bbl. is bight w/ staining, front sight is either trimmed or replaced to rectangular iron blade, adj. 2 position blade to rear sight is restored. Breech, lever, lock, hammer & saddle ring bar retain about 60-70% of an old applied case color, crisp markings. Brass has been cleaned & toned to light mustard patina. Stock is sound, refinished w/ sm. inset rear of saddle ring bar. Mechanically fine w/ good rifled bore. (01-17457/JS). ANTIQUE. $3,000-4,000.
