FANTASTIC EXPERIMENTAL MAUSER 1906/08, #17,
DEMO LOT
EXTENDED MAGAZINE. Cal. 9mm Mauser. S# 17. The Mauser M1906/08 was one of Mauser"s rarest and most charismatic pistols; fewer than 100 having been assembled on an experimental basis. The Mauser M1906/08 was an important developmental pistol with a flapper-locked bolt as later used in the M1915 rifle, and detachable magazine that had yet to make its appearance on any production handgun. As one might expect, there were a number of evolutionary changes in the M1908 design; this one having: a round barrel with unmarked octagonal reinforcement near the chamber, fixed front sight without a supporting barrel band, and "V" notch rear sight as part of the rear cover plate. Rotating safety lever on the left side of the frame with button release. Short magazine well, reaching to the midpoint of the trigger guard; the right side with a protruding screw head whose shaft acts as a pivot bar for the magazine release. Single piece wood checkered grip. The only markings on this pistol are the number "17" that appears on most of the major parts and the reference to bore/land/groove diameter as lightly struck under the barrel ("805. 0,12. 250."). "HI LLC Bettendorf, IA" import marked on bottom rails forward of magazine well. MAGS: 20 rd. with in-the-white body and 60% fire blued floorplate. Marked "40" on the left side of the wall and floorplate plus an inspection "11" at the bottom of the spine. Very good original condition. CONDITION: approximately 95% original blue with slight touch-up and a few tiny mars at the bottom of the hexagonal barrel extension forward of the protruding lug. Discreetly import marked using a fine laser etching method in an unobtrusive area. Comparable condition fire blued and strawed small parts; grip with most original varnish. Bright bore with light corrosion; near excellent manual functioning of mechanics. A great, early production Mauser M1906/08, well suited for the most advanced collection. PROVENANCE: From the esteemed collection of Paul Regnier, Switzerland. (20-1429/LA). CURIO. $45,000-65,000.
