FACTORY F GRADE ENGRAVED REMINGTON MODEL 11
SERIAL 767042. BARREL 28.5" WITH CUTTS COMPENSATOR . GAUGE 12. CHAMBER 2 3/4". LOP 14". This is an early post WWII gun. It is stamped "F" grade on both barrel and frame. The exquisite hand engraved frame features nearly complete coverage with pointers and waterfowl on both sides surrounded by bank note scroll. The breech of the barrel also has bank note engraving. The walnut stocks display triple x grain, oil finish, hand checkered with pistol grip and cap. This stock has a 3/4" black spacer with a 1/2" pad (both after market) The barrel features a vent rib and an old Cutts compensator. The Cutts compensator was originally developed as a device that reduced recoil (35-46% depending on the load used) in large bore long guns. It later morphed into a device that also allowed for changeable chokes. As it was available before screw in chokes were commonly available this was a significant invention. The Cutts compensator was invented by Colonel Richard Malcolm Cutts, USMC. during the 1920's for the military. " THE SPORTSMAN" is stamped on the bolt. Condition. The frame shows a hint of edge finish wear, otherwise, all metal remains at least 98% blue but there is a 1" spot of freckling on right side of barrel and a spot of missing finish on end of Cutts (this part can be replaced or reblued easily) . Wood is superb with just minor handling impressions. Bore is bright. C&R
