OF MODEL 1842 PISTOL. Cal. 54. NSN. According to Flayderman this is possibly Jacob Rupertus patented conversion but Dick Salzer in his American Society of Arms Collector’s article “Automatic Priming Systems” shows this as an unknown conversion where the rotating drum is primed w/ loose fulminate. The tube primer fits in the groove rear of hammer. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Salzer & Flayderman articles. CONDITION: good overall though portions of mechanism are missing. The drum no longer rotates & is frozen along w/ the vent hole being filled. There are no markings discernable other than bbl. tang date of 1849 & inspector marks “GW /P” on left side of breech. Metal overall is a mottled gray patina w/ staining & pitting. Brass has light mustard patina w/ numerous sm. dings & dents. Stock is sound w/ rounded edges & scattered cosmetic blemishes. Mechanically will cock though ignition system inoperable. Bore is pitted & corroded. (01-17460/JS). ANTIQUE. $1,500-2,500.
