EXTREMELY EARLY RUGER AC-556 FACTORY MG.
Cal. 223. S# 190-07591. Bbl. 18.5". The Ruger AC-556 was a fully automatic offering w/ its earliest lineage dating back to the early 1970’s. With most outward appearance very close to that of the popular mini-14, it could be easy to overlook at distance. The AC-556 has three different modes of fire, allowing the operator to choose between semi-auto, 3-shot burst & fully automatic. The selector lever on a typical AC556 functions by depressing a button before moving selector. This particular variant has a unique selector switch that requires downward & outward force be placed in order to utilize. While the safety remained in the same position as the mini-14, forward of the trigger guard, the selector switch was positioned on the right rear portion of the receiver. In its forward position the rifle was a standard self-loading design very much like the mini-14. w/ the selector in the center position, three shots are fired by depressing the trigger. In the rearward position the rifle will continue to shoot as long as the trigger is depressed & fed by a loaded mag. Early style receiver w/ exposed bolt hold-open hardware. The portion of the bolt that interacts w/ the charging handle utilizes a roller bearing which was only used on the earliest guns. Matte blued finish on all exposed metal surfaces of receiver & bbl. We feel it is important to point out that the finish on the trigger group is a polished blue which is unusual. Hardwood stock is actually walnut & not birch, as is typical w/ these rifles. Early wood hand-guard. Fixed blade front sight & rear sight is adj. peep. Sling swivels at 6 o’clock w/ rear below stock & front below gas block. Left side receiver markings include “Sturm, Ruger & Co., inc. / Southport, Conn. U.S.A.” below S#. Rear of receiver, behind sight, marked “Ruger / AC-556 / Cal. .223”. This rifle predates any known AC556 according to the materials in our library. MAGS: 1 original Ruger 30 rd. marked “Ruger / Mini-14”. CONDITION: typical of AC-556/Mini-14 rifles of this era the stock, though void of any significant damage, possesses numerous light impressions & sm. scratches typically encountered in storage. The rear of the stock sits proud of the metal buttplate. Metal finish is complete & typical of light usage illustrating the majority of wear at mechanical intersections. The last rd. bolt hold-open device isn’t functioning correctly, appearing to be frozen. Fire control mechanism appears to function correctly when cycled by hand. Decent bore w/ good rifling. NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT MG REQUIRING BATF TRANSFER BEFORE TAKING POSSESSION. FULLY TRANSFERABLE. (03-1464/JZ). MODERN CLASS III. $7,000-11,000.
