EARLY SWISS 1900 LUGER, COMMERCIAL BERN REWORK,
DEMO LOT
HOLSTER. Cal. 7.65mm Luger. S# 438. A very early Swiss 1900 Commercial Luger, with original, unaltered frame for flat magazine button, reworked and now fitted with a 1929 Bern-type toggle train. The pistol started as a standard configuration M1900 with 4.75" barrel, drift adjustable front sight, narrow trigger and narrow safety. Swiss Cross over chamber. DWM on middle link. Large, first variation checkered safety. Full SN under barrel and forward frame, last two digits on many of the small parts. BU commercial proofs left side of receiver and middle toggle link. At some point the gun was reworked, possibly at Bern, now with a replaced toggle train. The updated breechblock is proofed but unnumbered, the middle link is numbered "31", and the last link, unnumbered, is from a 1929 Bern. Sideplate is unnumbered. The frame was updated to have a coil recoil spring. The left grip is matching; the right grip proofed but unnumbered. MAGS: near excellent original, complete with scarce, early military flat button. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: later military holster, added pouch, dated "16". VG+ holster with supple leather and intact, original stitching. CONDITION: approximately 98-99% arsenal blue as reworked with revised toggle train and several unnumbered, updated parts as mentioned. Discreetly import marked using a fine laser etching method in an unobtrusive area. The left grip is missing a tiny chip under the safety. Bright, near-mirror bore, perfect manual mechanics. An interesting Luger, combining many of the earliest and most desirable features of the M1900 Luger with some of Bern"s latest designs. PROVENANCE: From the esteemed collection of Paul Regnier, Switzerland. (20-1421/LA). CURIO. $2,500-4,500.
