Overall length: 37". Blade length: 31". The plain blade has a single wide fuller & is somewhat falchion in style. Flamboyant iron hilt w/ crossguard extending over 12" in length. Flat iron hilt is pierced at the lower guard & has several semi-spherical adornments. Heavy gadrooned pommel. Wire wrapped grip w/ turk's head knots above & below. No scabbard. This saber emulates the style of a 16th or 17th century Germanic dussage. The fullered blade along w/ the workmanship in the hilt would indicate this is a later rendition of a historic design, possibly dating to the 18th or very early 19th century. A truly interesting example likely for a guard or ceremonial unit. CONDITION: blade has a cleaned somewhat mottled finish w/ several minor nicks to the edge. Hilt has a dark patina & shows no notable damage. Grip wire is complete. (02-13356/BF). $1,500-2,000.
