Serial #13721, 45LC caliber, Very early Ainsworth inspected US Cavalry Colt single action with a 7 1/2" barrel, with one piece walnut grips. In very nice overall condition, with pleasing mechanical action, and remnants of its attractive factory nickel finish. Showing nicely legible "US" property mark, on side of fame, as well as the small "A" at the top of the backstrap. A number of nickel plated "buyback" militia single actions have been identified in this serial number range. Matching numbers are located on the frame, trigger gaurd, back strap and cylinder. US Cavalry "buyback" Colts are extremely rare and desirable. The pistol is accompanied by a rare "Ropes" type flap holster with Mexican loop, with 10 cartridge loops attached to the top of the body, just under the flap (as seen in the book "Packing Iron" on page 30), as well as an 1876 Watervliet Arsenal Prairie Cartridge Belt. This is an extremely nice gun and rig.
