Cloud Shield was born in 1843 to Oglala Lakota Sioux parents and belonged to Red Cloud's Itesica Band. He was one of the first men to join the Akicitas, the Indian Police Force, on the Pine Ridge Reservation. Each officer purchased a weapon and it is believed this is the one Cloud Shield purchased as it has his name written on it in togia.
