Civil War or Indian Wars Militia NCO Dress Sword, in the 1860 Staff & Field style, dating from the Civil War to just before the Spanish American War. The 27-3/4'' plain steel blade is double edged with a central spine with no maker's marks visible. Crossguard, handle grip, and pommel are all cast solid brass. There is a single twisted brass wire wrapped around the grip. Scabbard is nickel-plated steel with a double ring upper hanger and single ring lower hanger. The cast brass drag shows a star on one side and flags on the other. There is a faint three initial monogram of the owner engraved on both sides of the scabbard at the top. OAL is 37-1/2''. Condition is good with the blade being cleaned bright and the original leather blade washer present. The hilt is in good condition with a medium dark patina to the brass. Scabbard has lost most all of its nickel-plated finish and has a scattered rust patina overall. Est.: $200-$400.
