Civil War Spencer 7-Shot Repeating Saddle-Ring Carbine, #16351, .52 RF cal., 22" round barrel has dovetailed block-blade front and sliding-leaf rear sights; receiver marked "Spencer Repeating/Rifle Co., Boston, Mass./Pat'd. March 6, 1860", has serpentine operating lever that drops down breechblock for auto loading/extraction, long side tangs for sidehammer at right and saddle ring/bar at left, 7-shot magazine tube located in buttstock; oil-finished walnut forend retained by a single band, matching buttstock has crescent buttplate with sliding door opening to internal mag. tube, sling loop at belly. Mfg'd ca. 1863-65. Condition is near fine retaining traces of barrel blue, the balance smooth brown patina; traces of case colors to hammer and receiver, the balance having silvered-out to bright metal. Stocks are sound and smooth, forend showing scattered use marks, with two not-quite-legible inspectors' marks at left. Action is crisp, 6-groove bore shows light frosting, occasional oxidation and sharp rifling. Est.: $2,000-$3,000. (Antique)
