Civil War Era Model 1840 U.S. Artillery Enlisted Sword, with scabbard. Bright 32'' blade with a single wide fuller, no apparent maker markings on the ricasso, possibly polished away. Brass guard has inspector's stamped letters ''HC'', and brass pommel is stamped with the number ''49''. Grooved wood grip with leather cover and remnants of twisted wire wrapping. Steel scabbard with two large hanging rings. Condition is very good with blade polished bright, possibly the original factory finish. One small stamp in the ricasso area might be remnants of an inspector's mark. Leather grip shows scuffs to the lacquered finish and is missing most of the twisted brass wire wrap, only two strands remain. The original leather blade washer is present. Scabbard has been cleaned and shows a scattered rust patina but no heavy pitting. There are inspector's marks stamped on the drag ''J.C.W.''. Est.: $400-$600.
