Civil War Era British B.S.A. Breechloading Snider System Short Rifle, #67, .577 CF cal., 30.5" round barrel has block-blade front (doubles as bayonet lug) and adjustable-leaf rear sights, marked with a sunken cartouche at breech; Snider receiver is marked with 2 marks, "Y" and a "(crown)/JG" proof at breech, trapdoor with floating firing pin is marked "Snider/(broad arrow)/Patent" in an oval, "(crown)/JG" and others on top, "67" inside; flat lockplate is marked with an Ottoman sultan's tughra (monogram) ahead of hammer and "B.S.A. Co./1865" behind; iron fittings include trigger guard with sling-loop at rear, buttplate with illegible mark at top, winged lock screws, two clamping bands (top with sling loop), nosecap and grooved/slotted steel ramrod. Stock is of oil-finished walnut with raised panels at either side of lock, step at lower band. Mfg'd. 1865. Condition is very good retaining traces of barrel blue but mainly smooth blue-brown patina, lock is dark with clear markings. Stock is sound showing mostly minor marks and dings of military use, has a .5"x1.5" patch of filler at right top buttplate and smaller bits between and ahead of lock screws, has been sanded and re-oiled. Action is crisp, bore is clean with light erosion and good rifling. Est.: $750-$1,000. (Antique)
