Civil War Colt Model 1860 Army Percussion Revolver, Cased with Accoutrements, #64486, .44 cal., 8" "streamlined" barrel marked with maker's name and "U.S. America" address on top, has patented creeping loading lever; rebated 6-shot round cylinder is roll-engraved with the naval battle scene, marked "Colts Patent No. 4486" within a box and "Pat. Sept. 10th 1853" below; open-top frame is marked "Colts/Patent" at lower front, has flush hammer screw and notches cut at recoil shield for attachable shoulder stock (not present) and another at butt of iron backstrap, brass trigger guard, 1-pc. oil-finished walnut grip. Mfg'd 1862. Condition is very good retaining approx. 35% thinning original barrel blue especially at right side, 40% darkening cylinder blue, else smooth gunmetal gray (perhaps with added finish), nicely muted case colors, bright brass. Grips are sound and smooth with a few marks, wear to both sides at bottom, red-painted "arrowheads" at either side of butt, lack inspector cartouches. Lever and wedge are modern replacements. Action is crisp, bore is bright with occasional oxidation and sharp rifling. Cased in a modern walnut box lined in reddish felt with instructions label in lid and partitioned for a bow-leg Colt bullet mold marked "44H", reproduction "eagle-and-stars" pocket flask, repro pack of skin cartridges, repro nipple wrench, 100-ct. Alcon cap tin, a number of cast lead balls and working case key, all in very good condition. Est.: $1,200-$1,800. (Antique)
