CARTRIDGE BOX & CARBINE CARTRIDGE BOX IDENTIFIED TO NEW HAMPSHIRE CAVALRYMAN. Cal. 44. S# 11453. The Colt Army in this lot is an early 4 screw made for shoulder stock. It is in very nice condition, all matching w/ good cyl. scene & crisp inspector's cartouche. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: holster is maker marked "GAYLORD CHICOPEE MASS". The pistol cartridge box is nicely stamped & inspected "US" along w/ a rare original pack of paper wrapped cartridges, which are rarely seen. Few early war paper wrapped packs survived, whereas the wood block packs are much more common. The accompanying carbine box made by "HOOVER, CALHOUN & CO" of New York is in excellent condition. Letter from family of soldier stating history of unidentified NH cavalryman who carried this gear. CONDITION: revolver is very good overall w/ an overall gray patina having traces of blue finish in protected areas. All matching S#s. Markings are all crisp, including well defined inspector's cartouche on left grip. Mechanically fine w/ well defined bore. Holster is sound & supple w/ some crazing & craquelure. Pistol box & carbine box are fine overall, retaining most of their original finish & light wear to tabs. Cartridge pack is overall good w/ 1 tear w/ loose powder escaping. (01-17349/JS).
