Overall 22”, 17” dbl. edged wasp waist blade. Once had old sticker on blade (see photographs in provenance) which read “James G. Rodgers / GA Vols”. Regardless of I.D., this is an original example of a GA made short sword that had been excavated from at least one naval vessel in the Chattahoochee River near Colombus & at least one photograph seen of soldier holding this style of knife. CONDITION: very good overall. Blade is gray w/ some staining & white pitting, some original tool marks still seen. Guard & bottom ferrule have iron patina. Copper washer on top has dark mustard patina w/ numerous sm. dings & dents. Turned wood grip has several chips w/ hand worn patina. PROVENANCE: Ex- Fred Donaldson Estate Collection.
