WAR BULLETS. Soldiers had a lot of time on their hands in camps & it seems whittling was a popular pastime & this collection represents many different types of projectiles, both North & South including bullets that were just carved on a little bit, others more elaborately turned into nipple protectors, fishing weights, possible game or chess pieces & many of unknown purpose other than they were just bored & carved on. Try to find any slightly whittled single bullet offered by any dealer for less than $20-$25. CONDITION: overall typical good to very good excavated lead w/ mixed lead colored oxide, many still w/ dirt & uncleaned. PROVENANCE: Estate Collection of Dan Poppen. (02-13449-1/JS). $600-800.
