CARBINE. Cal. 54. S# 16540. 1864 Dated lock in standard configuration w/ Merrill patent information in 3 lines forward of hammer & 2 lines on breech lever, 22 1/8” bbl. w/ inspector “TKL” at breech, brass mountings, stock w/ 2 inspector cartouches opposite lock. CONDITION: good to very good overall, matching & complete, iron has gray mottled patina w/ good markings, brass has mixed chocolate/mustard patinas. Stock is sound w/ hairline crack in wrist on left side, cartouches are both discerned w/ several areas of erosion, edges worn. Mechanics fine w/ exception of breech, which is difficult to close requiring a lot of pressure to lock & unlock. Bore has good rifling. (01-17456/JS). ANTIQUE. $2,000-3,000.
