Cal. 54. S#32873. Bbl. 21", about 39" overall. Conforms to other Civil War carbines of this pattern. This carbine utilized the unique Ambrose Burnside design "ice cream cone" shaped brass percussion cartridge. This is a standard 5th Model marked "BURNSIDE PATENT / MARCH 25TH 1856" on breech & "BURNSIDE RIFLE CO / PROVIDENCE RI" on lock. CONDITION: very good & all matching. Metal is overall mottled gray patina w/ staining, markings sharp. Stocks have numerous dents, gouges & scratches, lg. hairline on right side back of lock. 2 Cartouches are seen in outline only. Mechanically fine w/ crisp bright bore. (01-17107/JS). ANTIQUE. $800-1,200.
