RIFLE. Cal. 54. NSN. Standard configuration. Bbl. 33" rnd. having inspector marks at breech. Lock marked "E. WHITNEY / U.S." & "N HAVEN / 1853". 2 Inspector cartouches are found opposite lock in stock & "W MASON" is stamped on sideplate. CONDITION: good to very good overall. Metal is overall plum/brown patina w/ pitting. Brass mountings have a mixed mustard/olive patina. Bore has been reamed out to smoothbore & now measures 0.65". Ramrod is reproduction. Front band has had retaining spring removed & is screwed in place instead. Mechanically fine w/ pitted smooth bore. (01-17095/JS). ANTIQUE. $800-1,200.
