Cal. 577. NSN. This is a classic British import pattern 1853 rifle musket that saw much service both North & South. This is an honest survivor dated "1862" w/ standard Birmingham 25 bore black powder proofs. Bbl. 39". Original & complete in every regard, even retaining the bbl. band screw caps. Also has a chained nipple protector & a very scarce 1863 patented brass tompion w/ cloth covered composite plug. It is amazing that these November 1863 patented tompions were produced & made it to the Confederacy in time to be found in late 1864 battle sites. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: tompion. CONDITION: good to very good overall. Iron cleaned w/ mottled gray patina. Brass has been polished & varnished. Stock is sound w/ an indiscernible rnd. Birmingham maker's mark on left side of stock. Also on left side of stock has been personalized w/ an inset oval decorated silver piece. Mechanics are fine w/ clean rifled bore. (01-17093/JS). ANTIQUE. $800-1,200.
