SERIAL NUMBER 3311 BARREL 31" CALIBER .40 OVAL LANCASTER BORE. MANUFACTURED CIRCA 1870'S. The Lancaster Oval bore was introduced during the early 1850's fro British Military trials. Charles Lancaster developed his oval system with a gain twist system. The accuracy was found to be very satisfactory and was used in the Charles Lancaster commercial sporting arms. Side Lock exposed double rifle with hammers and Jones under lever. Bore measures .40 cal and a chamber casting will be necessary to determine the exact cartridge case needed. Barrels are marked "CHARLES LANCASTER 13 NEW BOND STREET LONDON." " PATENT SMOOTH BORE RIFLE" Both locks are marked with the Charles Lancaster monogram with tight scroll engraving. Classic English double rifle with 3 express rear sight leafs and small blade front sight. Comes in Wooden travel case with partitions and Charles Lancaster label on interior. CONDITION. Very good bores with properly operating action. Exterior is a chocolate patina with wood stocks being full sized but worn, solid and serviceable. ANTIQUE
